Gratitude for Your Well-Being

Positive Psychology is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive.  There are 24 character strengths that Martin Seligman from the University of Pennsylvania along with Christopher Peterson, 2 of the founders of Positive Psychology, identified.

Of all the character strengths Gratitude is the one that will bring about the most happiness and well-being. There is so much to be grateful for always! Gratitude can lower stress levels and anxiety allowing the body to function at a higher level. Gratitude is also the door that opens up our lives to more.  The more we are grateful for the gifts we already have in our lives the more we will receive.

When you focus on all you have to be grateful for fear disappears and when fear disappears you open your life to experience all the blessings life has to offer. When fear disappears you open up to endless possibilities. Ideas flow to you, doors open and magic happens.

There are many ways to be grateful, below are a few options, Develop a practice of Gratitude that works for you…

*Gratitude Journal – Begin a gratitude journal and write something you are grateful for every day. What you write doesn’t have to be something large you can begin with the small things. If you don’t know where to begin start with your breath. Begin with the fact that you are alive, that you can see or hear or taste or feel. Be grateful for the love you have in your heart, be grateful for the special moments in your life that have brought you joy. Be grateful for the people in your life that love and support you. Be grateful for the lessons you have learned on this glorious journey. Just begin and you will find it easier as you continue.

*Three Blessings – Every night as you lie in bed before you go to sleep think of three things that went well that day. Acknowledge them and appreciate them and you may find it easier to drift off to a peaceful sleep.

*When you wake each morning begin your day with thoughts of all that you are grateful for. Thoughts of gratitude open your heart and bring you into alignment with the Universal flow of Life.

*Reach Out to Others – Email, text or write people and let them know you appreciate them.
